FreeCell is the solitaire of pure skill — every card is dealt face up, so nothing is hidden and every deal is a puzzle to think through. Use four free cells as temporary parking, build columns down in alternating colours and move whole runs when you have room to shuffle them. Every deal offered here has been solved by the computer first, so there is always a way through. Safe cards fly to the foundations automatically, and a hint shows a move on a winning line.
How to play FreeCell
Goal: Move all 52 cards to the four foundations, each suit from Ace to King.
Keyboard & mouse
- Drag cards or runs, or click a card to send it to the best place
- U or Ctrl+Z to undo, H for a hint
- Tab moves between cards, Enter plays the focused card
- P or Escape to pause
Phone & tablet
- Tap a card to move it automatically, or drag it
- New deal, Undo, Hint and Options sit under the table
Rules
- Columns build down in alternating colours.
- Each free cell holds one card; any card may go there.
- Any card (or movable run) may fill an empty column.
- You can move a run of (free cells + 1) × 2 for each empty column at once.
- Safe cards move to the foundations automatically (you can turn this off).
Tips and strategy
- Free cells are precious — try to empty them again quickly.
- Free the Aces and Twos first: they unblock everything above them.
- An empty column is worth more than a free cell: it doubles how many cards you can move.
