Mini Crossword packs a full crossword into a five-by-five grid. Every puzzle has its own hand-written clues, from Once More and All Hands to Riverbank and Heartbeat, and the grids grow from small shapes with blocks to completely filled squares where every across and down answer interlocks. Tap a square to choose it and tap again to switch between across and down, or step through the clues with the arrows on the clue bar. Check your letters, reveal one if you are stuck, and finish quickly without help for three stars.
How to play Mini Crossword
Goal: Fill every square so all the across and down answers match their clues.
Keyboard & mouse
- Type letters; arrow keys move (or switch direction)
- Space switches across/down, Tab or Enter goes to the next clue, Backspace deletes
- Escape to pause
Phone & tablet
- Tap a square to select it, tap again to switch across/down
- Type with the on-screen keyboard; ‹ › on the clue bar change clues
Rules
- The highlighted row or column is the current answer; its clue is shown in the blue bar.
- Typing fills the square and moves to the next open square of the answer.
- Check marks wrong letters with a red slash. Reveal letter fills the selected square (shown in blue).
- Solve in two minutes without checks or reveals for three stars.
Tips and strategy
- Start with the clues you are sure of — crossing letters make the rest easier.
- Short words and fill-in-the-blank clues are usually the quickest.
- If a full grid will not finish, use Check to find the mistake.
