Slide Puzzle is the classic sliding-tile challenge with original illustrations. One square is missing, so tiles can only move into the gap — and every move shuffles something else. Twenty-four boards grow from 3×3 to 5×5. Each board has a par: the fewest moves possible, proven by a solver, so three stars always mean genuinely sharp play.
How to play Slide Puzzle
Goal: Put every tile back in order, with the gap in the bottom-right corner.
Keyboard & mouse
- Click a tile in the gap’s row or column to slide it
- Arrow keys or WASD push a tile into the gap
- V to peek at the picture, N to toggle numbers
- P or Escape to pause
Phone & tablet
- Tap a tile in the gap’s row or column to slide it (whole lines move together)
- Peek and Numbers buttons below the board
Rules
- Only tiles in the same row or column as the gap can move.
- Tapping a tile further away slides the whole line between it and the gap.
- Every tile shows its number; the finished order runs left to right, top to bottom.
- Par is the fewest moves possible. Finish within 1.5 × par for 3 stars.
- Peek shows the finished picture without costing moves.
Tips and strategy
- Solve the top row first, then the left column — the rest becomes a smaller puzzle.
- Place the last two tiles of a row together: park one, then rotate both in.
- Avoid moving tiles that are already home unless you must.
