Archery Range is target archery against the wind. Hold to draw the bow, steer the gently swaying sight onto the target and let go to shoot. Wind pushes every arrow sideways — more the farther the target — so read the windsock and aim upwind. Let go too early and the arrow drops; hold too long at full draw and your arms start to shake. Each range is three ends of three arrows on a ten-ring face, and you need a qualifying score to move on: from the calm 18 m indoor range out to 70 metres, gusty crosswinds and a target that slides from side to side.

How to play Archery Range

Goal: Score at least the qualifying total over three ends of three arrows to clear each range.

Keyboard & mouse

  • Hold the mouse button to draw, move to steer the sight, release to shoot
  • Or hold Space to draw, steer with the arrow keys and release Space to shoot
  • P or Escape to pause

Phone & tablet

  • Touch and hold to draw the bow
  • Slide your finger to steer the sight
  • Lift your finger to shoot

Rules

  • Hold to draw. The meter fills in under a second — shooting before full draw makes the arrow drop.
  • The sight sways a little; after three seconds at full draw it sways much more, so do not wait too long.
  • Wind (shown top right and by the windsock) blows arrows sideways. Aim upwind to compensate.
  • Rings score 10 (gold centre) down to 1 (white edge). Three ends of three arrows make a round of up to 90.
  • Reach the qualifying score to unlock the next range.

Tips and strategy

  • At 70 m a 3 m/s wind moves the arrow about a third of the way across the face.
  • On the gusty range, watch the wind number — it changes while you aim.
  • On the moving range, lead the target and release as it passes your sight.
